PC manufacturers are full of fail. I'm so pissed of the fact that if Intel goes down, it would happen despite their technological superiority.

Because the lazy, incompetent PC manufacturers hold 95%+ of Intel's revenues, they HAVE to succeed. Even if one manufacturer succeeds to go sell 100 million devices a year, it wouldn't be enough for Intel if the rest die off. Intel sells 360 million PC processors a year!

I'm flabbergasted at the fact that the only thing that you can really get hold of at a Windows 8 launch event is Windows 8. There are almost no devices you can test and try out(and zero convertibles). This IMO is one of the many keys to success Apple holds, and soon Microsoft will have(with their store).

Nothing is available. Not the Asus Taichi, the Lenovo Ideapad Yoga, Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro, Dell XPS 12. They are either all "sold" or "unavailable". They already have a big barrier to entry called "price", they DO NOT need another one.

What Apple does right:
-They do not hype their devices prior to launch. They launch it, and let the customers decide. That's why I believe people have such fascination to Apple devices. They get emotional and buy it before they have a chance to settle down and become "logical". This is 2012, where everyone wants everything super fast and super easy.
-They don't make you wait weeks and weeks for the device. Intel does not believe in this "waiting game" either considering their recent statement(about how they prefer oversupply than the other way). Conservative supply makes sense for a start-up, not companies the scale of HP, Asus, Dell, etc.
-They have a dedicated store to try them out hands-on, so you can decide quicker. Looking at pictures and reading about it does not do justice to actually holding and trying them out
-Few, focused product categories are available to buy that gets obsolete when new models are out. Websites are made simple and easy for people to navigate. That probably helps margins too because you don't need to make multiple assembly adjustments to make countless versions.

I wouldn't be surprised if the PC manufacturers are panicking, and being conservative, also making mistakes along the way. This is NOT the time to be in panic. I think if Intel can make a device and resolve such issues, I might not be against them trying it out after all.
