New Board Suggestion

I'd like to suggest that we start a new board called
"VM -- General Market Discussion", or something like that.

Please, no yelling and screaming if you don't like the idea. It's just a suggestion and I'll go along with whatever the board decides.

But here's the reasoning. We should want for everyone to be able to make the most efficient use of their time. When someone has an interest in something, he/she should be able to go to a location and find information on that topic, and then when he wants to find information on another topic he knows where to find that, too.

If you go to a dealership to look at a Toyota Camry, you don't want to have someone trying to sell you a Moped. You went to the dealership to look at the Camrys.

Keeping the boards specific is what makes them valuable. I'm all for a discussion of the markets in general, oil prices, gas prices, gold prices, articles on the economy, etc, and have engaged in it myself. But I just think it would be better on a board where that is the topic.

This board is supposed to be about Value Microcaps specificly. But recently, to find info about Value Microcaps on this board, one has to wade through lots of new posts, most of which have nothing to do with Value Microcaps.

Please keep in mind, I'm not saying that it isn't very worthwhile information that we all shouldn't participate in and have access to. But that stuff is on another topic and is obviously not about Value Microcaps.

True, there's the danger of having too many boards, but the Favorites feature makes this relatively easy to handle. I think the bigger danger is that the board becomes useless because it loses it's specificity. I saw it happen on some of the old Yahoo discussion boards. What used to be a stock picking board soon became a board about articles on the economy, y2k, religious beliefs, thoughts on market direction, etc. You'd have to wade through 200 new messages each day, and maybe 5 of them were about stocks. There was also lots of "My XYZ is up 10% today!!" Or, "I'm up 33% for the year!!" The board became totally useless and withered away, because it was way to time-consuming to find the specific info you wanted.

Sheriff Len has done a very good job patrolling the board and I don't envy his position. But I think we could actually make his job easier if we had more of a "free for all" board where you could make general market comments, post articles, etc, and keep this one specific to Value Microcaps.

The number of posts to this specific board might go down, but sometimes less is more.

Maybe once every couple of weeks, we could post the same message entitled "For Newcomers" and it would detail the different boards and how to properly participate. (This is a practical way of dealing with the fact that I think many people never read the Board Info).

So that's my suggestion. It's just an idea.
