why would you start with a drug that could be your possible salvage therapy?

Because ponatinib potentially prevents the mutations from occurring in the first place but there's no need to take my word for it when you can listen to Dr. Cortez from MD Andersen. Peter also recently commented on the benefit to using ponatinb early

Between the EPIC and MD Andersen trials, we'll know soon enough but what 12-month MCyR in your mind would be convincing?

fyi, there's been a lot more than 10 months follow-up at this point.
