That scenario can be made for any tech product. There is always the potential that a "better way" will come along that can bypass patents. No matter what it is, you can find some other research, at University Level or whatever..where you can say to yourself "Oh, but look at this, if this comes to production it could kill the product the company I'm invested in is making." Yes...Sure... Some phone could have come along and knocked the IPHONE off the shelves. etc etc etc. If you want to scream "FIRE" in the theater..go ahead...I've got my pop corn and I'm going to watch the movie.
