IMO that is a common misconception about charts and their indicators. They really have very little to do with the actual company but rather how the public perceives the company.
There is a very good book, whose name escapes me at the moment, that deals with this topic. The author is a trader and a psychologist and he explains how each indicator is calculated and what it means in terms of the psychology of the market.
