As a research scientist, if you knew the best way to get your project to succeed was to hand it over to someone who could take it the rest of the way, would you continue trying and risk having it not succeed? Coaches hand off their proteges to better coaches if they have the interest of the protege at heart. I am not saying this what happened, but a good CEO would realize this.
If Abbvie is involved the have capable R&D teams and have had people involved in the development of Libigel. I believe they will somehow be involved in this deal, and will have secured employment for those Biosante employees needed to move Libigel to market.
It would be interesting to see if Tang has a stake in ANI. Knowing this could help answer this question.
