Current Laser Detection and Ranging (LADAR) seekers
require mechanical gimbals to raster scan a laser across
a field of view (FOV) to generate a three-dimensional
image and to aim the FOV of the seeker in order to track a
target. There is a need to develop improved beam steering
technologies for imaging laser radar munitions seekers.

Boulder Nonlinear Systems (BNS) developed and provided
a breadboard demonstration of a modular
two-dimensional (2D) scanner. The Defense
Advanced Research Projects Agency
(DARPA) Adaptive Photonic Phase-Locked Elements
(APPLE) Phase II program has selected and incorporated
the technology as the non-mechanical wide FOV steering
element. The new technology provides improved size,
weight, and power compared to previous technologies
applied in the APPLE program.
