I see where the similarity in the looks is, but I have to disagree. The NFC antenna is one continuous "spiral." The marks in the case have many beginnings and endings, as can be seen in the bottom right of this picture:



My guess is that line by the "barcode" (which you can see was edited out of this picture) is where the CNC ended for the right side of the milled area and crossed over to begin milling the left side.

And if the reject rate is high when molding a part to the final dimensions, I can see Apple initially molding a much simpler part with a low reject rate, then doing one simple machining step to finish it up.
