Indigenisation Regulations Suspended For New Investors -

Harare,— Government on Wednesday clipped the wings of Youth
Development Indigenisation and Empowerment minister,
Saviour Kasukuwere, in a charm offensive to lure investors
amid revelations that
potential investors were scared by the empowerment legislation.
The empowerment law states that locals should have 51% in all
companies operating in the country and had unnerved investors
needed to help rebuild the economy devastated by a decade of
hyperinflation.

In his mid-term Fiscal policy presentation, Finance minister,
Tendai Biti, said government had agreed to exempt new investors
from complying with the clause that states that at least 51%
should be given to locals to align the empowerment of the
people to the country’s efforts to attract new investors.

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai have said for a long time

that he want the 51% empowerment removed as null and void -

in efforts to attract new investors to the Zim land -

Prime Minister Tsvangirai meets his Japanese counterpart

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, who is on an official visit
to Japan, today met his Chinese counterpart,
Mr Yoshihiko Noda, and the two discussed various running
projects in Zimbabwe involving Japanese investors,
among other issues.

The two held a 30-minute discussion and PM Noda paid tribute
to Premier Tsvangirai on his personal efforts towards
democratization in Zimbabwe and the improvement of the
general economic situation in the country since
the formation of the inclusive government.
