I think it's very likely that our boy has "accrued cash benefits" discretely along the way. After all he does seem to enjoy, and want, the lifestyle now, that he envisions w the success of the battery. I'm sure he'd want a much snazzier lifestyle in the future, and consequently I feel the "end game" does go beyond current perks, to a desire for success w either product.
Large egos are OK, in fact necessary, for eventual success.
My fear is that there are potentially some fatal flaws in the personality/ego. The "end game" desire may be there, but the tools may be lacking.
IE, some people want the control so badly, that they will kill the golden goose, thru other faults of theirs, but by golly they will maintain the control right down to the death throes. There sure seem to be aspects of that happening here.
At any rate, time will tell in this never a dull moment scenario.
