lostcowboy: Uh oh! I blew it. I thought I would just try reinstalling Office 97 (I couldn't figure out how to do just Word), but I might have done something wrong. It gave me several error messages about setup (like 11939, 11940, etc.). Now when I start my computer, it asks me which mode I want to start it up in. If I select "1" (Normal), it seems to come up in what looks like the "safe" mode screen.

The only other thing I can think of is that I took several things out of the start-up menu that were supposedly not essential, I'm on a computer at a friend's house because I can't even get on line.

Any suggestions or should I call a professional.

Is there a number that where you can call and pay them to help you talk you thorugh a diagnosis and repair over the phone?
