They're doing really well, but I think they WOULD be happier in bigger containers. If you decide to transplant, you should do it as soon as possible.

The containers I use for my tomatoes are 12" deep by 13" across. I fill them as close to the top as I can. Of course some soil always washes out. I'd use bigger ones if I had the room.

I don't think it matters whether the containers are "food grade". The ones you buy aren't marked that way. And I've seen plenty of gardeners recommend using big plastic paint buckets.

Terracotta's nice, but horribly heavy once it's full of soil.
