Who uses it?:

STS-111 can be used for military applications for Command, Control and Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaisance (C3ISR). The U.S. Navy is considering use of the platform in “over the horizon” operation (i.e., ~170 miles @ 15,000 feet) to maintain a communications link with video feeds as it follows a battle group. DHS or FEMA may be interested for large-scale emergency or disaster response operations to rapidly deploy communications platforms where infrastructure is damaged or destroyed. Environmental, scientific, or GEO-INT communities (EPA, NASA, NRO, NGA) may adapt a sensory payload for data collection.
