DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) -- Ford Motor Co. said April U.S. sales fell 5 percent from last April. Fiesta subcompact sales fell 44 percent as customers increasingly chose the larger Focus instead. Escape SUV sales fell 20 percent as Ford clears out old models to prepare for the launch of the new Escape later this spring.

BY THE NUMBERS: Ford sold 180,350 cars and trucks, down from 189,778 in April of 2011.

TOP SELLERS: The Dearborn, Mich.-based automaker sold 47,453 F-Series pickup trucks, up 4 percent from a year earlier.

HOT MODELS: Both the Ford Focus sedan and Ford Edge crossover reported 12 percent sales gains. Sales of the recently revamped Lincoln MKS sedan and MKT crossover jumped more than 50 percent each.
