go-kitesurf, I think you might need to educate me. Perhaps some of my technology understandings are incorrect?

I was of the belief that the TPM has a software package (ETS in the Windows world) that coordinates communications between the BIOS, OS and the trust server. If the OS is unimportant does all of this communication take place outside the OS, and if so, why are the APIs so important?

It is because of my understanding that I think the prevailing OS is important going into the future.

If, however, I'm not far off-base on this understanding, perhaps you are saying that no matter what OS is in the marketplace, if it runs on an Intel motherboard it will be required to communicate with the TPM (using this as the metaphor for the entire trust package) via ETS? And if this is the case how is it that ETS will communicate with a non-Windows OS if it has not been designed to do so?

If you would correct any architectural misunderstandings I may have and explaining why the OS is unimportant now or into the future I would be appreciative.
