Snackman, and therein lies what I believe to be the fallacy of your thought.

This is about the future OS on the x86 platform.

Do you know what the dominant OS will be in 5 years? If not, ubiquity requires to be prepared for the future.

Is there room for a competitor to MS?

Whatever you may feel personally about the competing OS, the market will decide. I think Linux proved MSFT has an Achilles heel. I believe AAPL is now going to take advantage of MSFTs Achilles heel with INTCs help.

For me, this is not a debate between what OS you prefer (or not). This is about ubiquity.
