There's an easier way to refine gold. You can use Aqua Regia. You make that with muriatic acid and sodium nitrate and disolve the base metals and aftert a few other steps you precipitate it out of solution which actually forms pure gold 'powder'. You wash that real good and melt that down which will yield(if done properly)pure gold which you can do what you want with. But that's usually the home refiners method and not suitable for large scale I wouldnt think.
