kant, re: subsuming

The Longhorn/Vista TPM Services Architecture makes changes to the TCG TSS at the lower levels, below the layers that Wave's products should be talking to. Therefore, the changes should not impact Wave's products. Remember, Wave is not in the TSS business.

Part of what the new architecture provides does subsume some of the Ntru CTSS functionality. However, I have reason to believe that msft collaborated with Ntru on the TPM Services Architecture so that does not particularly concern me.

Also, I have started looking at WinFX and its relationship to MSCAPI. It appears that the existing CSP-related pieces of CAPI are compatible with (and not replaced by) WinFX. The takeaway is that the position of Wave's CSP has not changed going into Vista, IMO.

Msft's published goals for the TPM Svcs. Architecture:

>>>
Design and Architecture of TPM Services

Longhorn TPM Services are designed to meet the following goals:

• Support applications that use TPM technologies for Longhorn users, developers, and administrators
• Create an environment where applications can share the TPM
• Provide an appropriate level of abstraction for constrained resources
• Protect applications from each other
Provide infrastructure for third-party developers and system manufacturers to add value
Make a single driver to support a variety of TPM 1.2-compliant designs in the market
• Provide mechanisms to support the right to opt-in and the right to privacy

Hope this helps clarify the issue for you.
