weets, bios refresh

from your post:

Finally, before TPMs are activated the BIOS in each machine will need to be refreshed with tools provided by the PC OEMs.

Which has nothing to do with PC -OEMs selling new machines, so I expect Wave to carry the water on this. Yes, the OEMs need to support their old machines, and generally (IMO) gov procures with long maintenance plans, so presumably this is/will roll ... I'm not trying to be a nay-sayer on this per se, I'm just trying to emphasize that there is real work to be done.

I see nobody better suited to do it than Wave. But SKS' tone (which I value more than content at times) was that this BIOS refresh is a bit of a sticky wicket.

But don't get me wrong on this. I'm saying: Go Wave. Fix those BIOSes. Activate the TPMs. Secure those machines. I'm just thinking the rate that this effort as observed on the top-line may be a little slower than anticipated.

This is the history of what I think "is".

1. Wave has been repeatedly pointing at an installed base that is ready to go. (no mention of the fact that the installed base needs significant pre-deployment engineering services).
2a. Wave did a pre-launch WEM announcement at NSA (shortly after the DoD mandate memo, shortly before the newer NIST spec they helped author).
2b. Wave says they expect commercial release of WEM by the end of the year.
3. Wave announces in the Q3 CC they have $500k of WEM out there getting kicked around.
4. The end of the year happens. No commercial release of WEM. Its march, still no commercial release of WEM.
5. SKS says at AGC CC that them thar legacy BIOSes are a mess.

(below Dig Space's attempted reasoning flow-chart)

what is: I believe all of 1-5 above represent fairly what "is" (what did happen).

why it is: I speculate, err, guess, based on all of that, that WEM collided less harmoniously with legacy BIOS than previously anticipated.

what I feel about it: I believe that this represents advantages and disadvantages for Wave, the disadvantage being deployment rate, the advantage being that it further locks out competition at this critical juncture.

The above content is my opinion.
