Charlie-You of course perfectly understood my rather basic point: business and government are the same entity. Anyone arguing differently is very naïve.

While the point is basic, and to me self-evident, to precisely unravel the skein of co-dependency—if not identicalness— is virtually impossible. And it’s this impossibility that has enabled various entities for many, many decades to throw mud at their opponents: you got help and I didn’t, you’re “funded” by the government and I’m not, I’m “private” and you’re not, on and on.

Specifically, speaking of the great industrialists, while you admit that “the US gov't provided the framework in which they could operate and preserve the wealth that they created” you’re greatly minimizing its importance. Not to mention that the wealth-creation itself could not have occurred without the “framework!”

You seem to be a great defender of capitalism, as am I, but seem to have a problem with a consummate capitalist like T.B. getting some public money to ultimate benefit the public and, yes, also benefit himself.

For me to engage you in a specific oil or NG debate would be like trying to teach my grandmother to suck eggs, and I’m not going there! smile

Perhaps as a side not, perhaps not: I’m deliberately refraining from entering the quagmire of arguing specific political parties or politicians. You’re a big boy and if you want to enter that swamp, then you can. Even if you do, using loaded phrases like “Obama and his friends” just obfuscates the issues. Again, this is much more your bailiwick than mine, but I believe the administration is merely saying that more time is needed to review the project, especially regarding the Ogallala Aquifer. As an experienced, knowledgeable environmentalist, in the best sense of the word, I would think that you'd be in favor of this.

Kindly,
Gary
