emit ... if you are referring ...

to PortalPlayer here, "... PP does cell [phones].", I would appreciate a link to your source. I have kept an eye on this company for a long time, because they made statements early on that were very similar to those of e.Digital. They indicated that their audio platform was also multi-codec and multi-DRM, and to the best of my knowledge they are only involved with ...

"consumer entertainment devices for the pocket, car and home, such as digital-audio-capable portables, camera accessories, car stereos and home component systems."

In fact, when I asked Robert about e.Digital`s involvement with regard to cell phones back on 8-6-01, I reported the following:

3G Phones
Robert mentioned that we are working on a cell phone accessory [a music plug-in, to be exact], which would obviously negate any dependency on bandwidth, and consequently, 2.5 or 3G infrastructure.

I do recall that I wasn`t particularly thrilled to hear about this plug-in device then, and I`m not too optimistic about our participation in the cell phone market now. Of course, quite a bit of time has passed since then, and if you or anyone else has can point me in the direction of some current info, I`m all eyes !!

Now, getting back to PortalPlayer, I remain intrigued with what they said in their 6-11-02 press release ...

"The company is now shipping technology platforms for hard-disk-equipped jukeboxes, and is ideally positioned to capture market share in this very hot product category. With the closing of a strong funding round in a still-difficult environment, we will solidify a leadership role in digital audio and accelerate development of next generation still and motion video-capable systems."

Robert told me not long ago in so many words that PortalPlayer does indeed have the chip of choice with respect to the HDD Jukebox market [our O-1000 platform excluded], and he also said that they have more work than they can handle. Actually, I find that rather ironic though, because the only customers of their`s that I`m aware of is Apple [iPod] and I think iRock ?!? Do you think that they might need some assistance with their video endeavors perhaps ?? I guess we`ll just have to wait and see how this all plays out !!
