Using the website would depend on people actually going to the site. Most of the world has never heard of this company nor would they even think to look for something like this.

Obviously they think they have something that is going to appeal to the masses so official wire services is the way to go. Sure this was a simple, weak, announcement, but you never know who is listening that it might appeal to. It also gives them a hint of credibility, and as bad as things seem at the moment that hint is priceless and needs to be held on to.

Pretty much all of the companies I hold shares in I got the initial clue from the wire services. As frivolous as it seems, it is the right way to go.
