Xybernaut® Receives Order from FedEx To Be Used in Aircraft Maintenance Program

April 2001 (Newstream) -- Xybernaut Corporation (NASDAQ: XYBR), announced that it had received and shipped an order from Federal Express Corporation ("FedEx Express"), a subsidiary of FedEx Corporation (NYSE: FDX), for Xybernaut's mobile wearable computers for use in the FedEx Express Aircraft Operations Division. This order results from a pilot project started in January 1999 aimed at developing, testing and purchasing the mobile wearable computer best suited to Fed Ex's requirements. This initial order is valued at over $1.0 million in this first stage of deployment, the majority of which was shipped in December 2000.

"This technology will provide the FedEx Express's line maintenance technicians with wireless access and update information concerning aircraft location, and all information required to inspect, maintain, repair and subsequently confirm the air worthiness of our 350 trunk aircraft during the FedEx Express's time-critical hub turns," said Don Barber, Senior Vice President, FedEx Express Air Operations.

"Xybernaut is very pleased to add FedEx Express to our growing worldwide customer base and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship," stated Tod R. Rehm, President and COO of Xybernaut. "An on-going and key element of our strategic plan is to identify leading commercial, government, military and educational organizations that our research has shown would benefit most from the increased productivity and return on investment obtained from using mobile wearable computers in their daily operations. We have provided Xybernaut's MA® IVs to be used in several selected pilot projects within these organizations, such as Bell Canada and other pilots (highlighted in a two page New York Times article, Thursday, December 7, 2000). As a leader in their marketplace, we are pleased that FedEx Express has selected Xybernaut to move from the pilot project stage to deployment, and we look forward to integrating future models of the MA series as they become available."
