I have been in this stock not as long as many but i had it in the previous century so i have seen my fair share of misses and unfulfilled promises with this company.
I am coming to the people on this board that know the industry and know the value or lack there of what interdigital has and not those who "have a feeling in their gut" or an opinion that this stock is "worth" 200.00 per share for no good reason other than it makes them feel good to say it.
my question is, with the exception of the CAFC decision which the way our luck is running we might be lucky to get a split, what do we have to look forward to with this stock in the next 6 months? I picked 6 months not for any particular reason other then who knows what the face of the market will look like after that considering europe's teetering on the edge of disaster.
Knowing IDCC's disinterest in keeping their shareholders informed, after listening to that conference call nothing i heard was all that positive. yes as we do on this board all the time, we can parse words or statements out of their script about being an 800 million company in 3 to 5 years. While that is nice, it is 3 to 5 years and God knows what the economy will look like by than. yes, there was interest (or so he said) in buying some of the patents, but selling some of them for 50 or 100 million is not going to move this stock much plus what i heard was they would prefer to hold on to the patents until the contracts runs its course and than possibly sell them. I question, when it comes time to do that, how many will hold idcc hostage in trying to get a steal for a patents instead of signing up for another 2 or 3 years?
they waited until well after the SA was proved to be fruitless to announce (after the new york times scooped them) that it has ended and all they could come up with is what i said above. If there were licenses around the corner wouldnt you want to have them in your pocket when you announce the end of the SA? Also, it allows you to support the 800 million number with actual business instead of a pie in the sky number that frankly with LG not signing and others coming off the books you have to wonder how they will get there. you have to give us much more than just a number to support the future revenue expectations.
I am ashamed that i stuck around with this stock up to 82 and back down again, but i honestly thought this was different mainly because the first time it went to 82 there was nothing really all that positive (other then the baby qcom statement) other then a crazy market to cause it to go up. In this case, we had the nortel sale from 4 or 5 times more than what everyone thought it was worse and we were up for sale with more valuable patents and a company that was actually in business so why not expect something different.
I am hopeful that there is something positive out there that will keep me around because right now from what i heard last night, i just dont believe there is anything that is going to keep this stock from languishing in the mid 30's and god help us if the market turns we wont hold it there very long.
looking for some hope!
