"Toronto-listed Energizer Resources is developing a Madagascar mine specifically to produce battery-grade vanadium," says Joseph Henry, commodities specialist at British stockbrokers Killik & Co. "I could be early in this, but the industry seems to be waking up to the technology now."

Mr Henry also sees potential in the few miners of high-grade graphite, such as Toronto-listed Northern Graphite.

Lithium batteries require significant amounts of the mineral and prices of high-grade graphite have tripled since 2005.
