I've been using a Vantec NexStar TX enclosure for well over a year without any issues.

I favour enclosures over adapters because they can provide some mechanical protection as well as facilitate connecting to the computer.

As a bonus, the NexStar TX comes with a tiny Philips screwdriver that fits my laptop hardware perfectly.

P.S. My Western Digital Scorpio Black Disk (7,200 RPM) runs from the USB power just fine.


P.P.S. I took a peek at NewEgg's price on my disk. I'm in shock! They're asking over double what I paid last year. When disk prices were predicted to rise, they weren't kidding. Kinda makes the SSDs even more attractive.
