The volitility in the stock market has changed over the last 25 years making it hard for new investors who are on a steep learning curve. I started out investing in closed end funds and held for years. I try to remember ever investment mistake I've made before I start a new investment. I am humbled by big wins as they have more to do with luck than skill. You are so right about having a plan. The message boards are a lot of fun but any plan shouldn't be based on them.
