Some people think that if a company is bought out, everybody just goes home and the last one hands over the keys. Part of IDCC's value is their brainpower; it is very possible that they want to have a total complement in place that would continue "manufacturing patents" and finding technical solutions.

Of course, that's not a negative spin, so...
