When the automatic exercise for options went from 5 cents to 1 cent and then add to that the weekly options that are popping up, you can see why the little guy (me and many of us here) should probably reconsider the use of options in our investing strategies. It isn't a fair game. That's been true for a long time, but it has become even more lopsided recently.

The best advice I've received and the best advice I can give for the small investor is to sell puts and sell covered calls and let time be your friend and only sell puts when you're willing to own the stock.

If I had taken that advice for these past 10 years and stuck to it, my net worth would be significantly higher. The good news is that it isn't too late to apply that strategy.
