iPod - MP3 players were around well before the iPod was ever introduced, iPad - first tablet computer came out in 2001 nearly a decade before the iPad, etc. The recent successes of Apple are largely great marketing feats similar to Nike back in its hay day versus developing new revolutionary products, IMHO.

Not even close.

1) Jobs realized people want items that work smoothly and are aesthetically pleasing.

2) Because of his vision in regards to how we use technology, he opened up markets for his products. You don't see grandma and grandpa rushing to "build" themselves a Dell computer online. You do see them at the Apple store realizing that they can use the iPad without calling their grandson. So they walk out with one. A market that was basically untapped with regards to technology is now almost all Apple's (unless you know many grandparents with Blackberry Playbooks and BBMing on their Blackberry Bold).

3) His business acumen is proven by his ability to use his first mover / quality-in-build advantage to penetrate the markets down to the entry level. The one complaint about Apple products over the years has always been that they're "too expensive." But through his business acumen, he capitalized on his strategy to build up a cash stockpile that allows the company to make bulk purchases to increase pricing pressure on competitors. Apple consistently brings their products in at the high cost end, but almost always ends up competing and besting competitors on price eventually. Case in point: you can now get the iPhone 3GS free with a plan. Anyone going to choose the free Nokia over the free iPhone? Their prices on the Macbook Air are proving nearly impossible to beat for competitors like Sony and Dell (remember Dell's Adamo? yeah...)

4) The comment about the iPod is laughable. Can you name another MP3 player on the market??? It'll be the same way for tablets.

He's a much, much better business man than people like you give him credit for...
