Techinvestor, Focus is on IDCC and patent sale, so I shall decline to comment on other companies that are not related.

I used the event of a manufacturer's drop link to high light the essential nature of some "accessories". Since I got your attention, the task is successfully completed. I did not mention Apple's iPhone4's drop link. It was a non-issue though involving interference. Human hand on a handheld device should have been engineered into the phone's environment already.

The Apple's patent on small antenna is sometimes referred to as the metamaterial type (man-made material), and, further, it specifically addresses platforms that are covered by metal, like aluminum skin on an iPhone. It is a double challenge for 4G (not iPhone4, but maybe 6, 7). That technology when fully developed should complement IDCC mXn patent. I am looking ahead into the near future, standing on my cherry picker (not a John Deere, as pointed out by a careful reader).
