A huge reason the Japanese automobile sales in the US went sky high in the early to mid 80s was due to the fact American made 6 cylinder engines lasted about 80,000 miles with regular maintenance, while the Japanese counterparts went 150,000 miles just keeping the oil changed. In alot of instances, the Japanese car wasn't all that much cheaper, but the life expectancy of the moving parts, plus the quality, put the US manufacturers to shame. Quality will always sell. We've gotten into a discussion on this board about how even if a product is better, it won't necessarily sell. That really is not the rule, that is an exception. Better is always better, and people always want better. In time, if done properly, spider silk will be comparable in price. The cost of production, done the way KBLB produces spider silk, is the exact same as the production of silkworm silk. There is no reason spider silk shouldn't be comparably priced after the initial introduction, and it could be priced at a premium because people are ALWAYS (rule, there are exceptions) happy to pay for quality.
