That report you are looking at simply is based on how electronic transactions work...its like this.
You use Etrade and want to buy 10,000 shares... I use Scott and sell 10,000 shares... you buy my shares and your account is automaticlly credited with the 10K shares... mine shows them deducted... BUT and here is where the short shows up... those shares are not actually settled for 48 to 72 hours... so they are listed on the electronic sheet that FINRA puts out as SHORT... they are NOT shorted shares by the MM or by anyone else...
Real shorted shares are ONLY reported ever two weeks on the settlement date and not on a daliy basis... I know this is not going to be accepted by some here...but hopefully it will help you understand how that report works.... If you or anyone here really wants to know if this is correct or if you just want to check it for yourself... use this link and Call FINRA and they will explain it to you... good luck.
