You appear to be suffering from the misconception that spider silk's superiority would be merely a matter of making them more comfortable. Nothing could be farther from the truth. (Your attitude reminds me of a particularly ignorant response a man made to a news announcement that his ferry would not be sailing on time because the workers refused to leave port without an operative radio. He expressed great outrage over [expletive deleted] who wouldn't work "without their entertainment"! (This was in some of the roughest seas in the area and during the height of the storm season.) So I asked him just how, exactly, he expected the captain to get assistance, should the ship start sinking, without a radio.
Bulletproof vests are very hot and in hot climates, especially, they can greatly restrict how much personnel wearing them can do (if you doubt that, try playing a set of tennis in 100 degree temperatures. Email me from the hospital if you're too stupid to stop.) Even if it's not a hot environment the weight can make a big difference especially with military personnel who often have to wear and carry many pounds of gear. Every decrease in combat effectiveness due to excess heat or excess weight puts them that much more at risk. I can assure you from personal experience that the US military is not noted for excessive concern for the comfort of their troops. [[anyone who doesn't recognize that as an outrageous understatement meant as humor hasn't been in the military]] Combat efficiency is another matter entirely.
I would suggest you contemplate the following question and how it applies to your investment decisions. Is it better to "win the argument" or to determine the truth?
