I am not assuming that GOOG is out of the bidding for IDCC. Buying MMI shows a (surprising) desire for GOOG to enter the handset market while acquiring MMI's patent portfolio. But GOOG still has the cash to buy IDCC, or, use its stock as currency if it wants to own IDCC patents.

Also, the real fight right now is between Samsung and Apple. IMO, IDCC will be acquired by one of those two. The stakes are still incredibly high for LTE.
