Count, When Google talks about having to indemnify users of the Android platform, I am pretty sure they are referring to software issues related to the operating system; not the modem or radio air interface. Android probably intersects a good bit of Microsoft ip as well as Oracle, Apple, and others, but is not related to the air interface which is where the majority of IDCC's patents are involved.

If IDCC were to sue Motorola for instance, claiming that their Android offering infringed on IDCC's patents, Google would not be indemnifying Motorola. Conversely, if Microsoft sued Motorola regarding an issue with the Android software, then Google might very well have to step up.

I believe if Google acquires IDCC, they will try to monetize them by licensing the users of Android and others. The only reason they would need them for defensive purposes would be if they start selling Google branded devices.
