I think I figured out why Susman never shows up to these hearings.

A couple of days ago, I saw this movie where these 2 guys were invited by their rich uncle to a party at his beach house over the weekend. The uncle died, but since the 2 guys wanted to party that weekend, they pretended he was alive and kept the party going.

I suspect (IMHO), that the old man might have kicked the bucket and the rest of his office are doing their best to keep up the charade. If my suspicions are correct, on Friday, they will bring the carcass of Susman, tied "hand to hand", "feet to feet" with Nelson, and Sargent will be doing a ventriliquist-style, Susman impression, while Nelson act as the puppeteer.
