I went out today and bought a Portuguese-English dictionary and had been going through the process of translating the same article before realizing you had already done it.

I sure do not purport to speak portuguese or to be any kind of expert translator - simply armed with a new dictionary.

My transaltion generally agrees very closely with yours except in one significant point.

Where you translate:

A mesma fonte referiu ainda que, como forma de pressionar a parte são-tomense a ceder, a Nigéria teria apresentado um ultimato a São Tomé e Príncipe para pagar uma divida de cerca de 15 milhões de dólares resultante dos serviços da autoridade conjunta de exploração entre os dois Países.

The same source revealed that although he had formed the impression that the Sao Tome side would yield, Nigeria had presented to Sao Tome an ultimatum to pay its share of nearly $15 million resulting from the serviceces of the Joint Development Authority of the two countries.

I translated it as:

The same source said, to pressure the Sao Tomese side to give in, Nigeria presented an ultimatum to Sao Tomé and Prince to pay its share of around 15 millions USD in operating costs of JDA.

Quite a different meaning.

more literal translation:

como forma de pressionar a parte sao tomese a ceder

as form of pressure to part sao tomese to give way

I don't read it all as the source implying that he expected Sao tome to give in. Although I certainly hope it works!
