Dom replied to your post which I forwarded to him. Thanks again for the info!

From Dom:
"I've been following the hype around turntable.fm, but I've been unable to play with the service myself.

I think what they are doing is attracting so much attention because they are thinking about fans in a way that many people are not. That having been said, there are many companies already out there that offer parts of the service. Soundout.com offers bands the ability to get new releases reviewed by their target market before they make a release.

The concept of engaging directly with fans and providing a conduit for artists to get a controllable and more meaningful way of granting access to their fans is 100% People's Republic of Music. It will be interesting to see how they go about getting the content licensed, as the poster has intimated. This was our starting point when building CloudChannel, so we do have a solution for it, but the people at SoundExchange have pretty onerous requirements with regard to streaming fees, so the costs of providing a service like this without some kind of direct rights attribution that's endorsed by SoundExchange could be prohibitive.

We are tackling the same problem but in different ways.

It's also worth looking at companies like Spreaker.com who are also engaging in the same space as turntable.fm and CloudChannel."
