That's not bad 55k a year. Try spending 140,000 on a degree in aviation and go to a regional airline paying 24k a year. You have to live off food stamps to pay off all the student loans. Once you have been in awhile (3 to 5 years) you be making 35k-55k a year. At one point 10-15 years ago pilots was making 300k a year. They took half a pay cut 150k a year to keep the company alive. This was happing before 9/11. Most pilots don't give a crap about teachers union because of the treatment pilots have been getting before anyone else.
Once you have enough hours and work for SW or UPS or Fedex. You will be making over 100K easily. Also, you are constantly training and being tested for the rest of your life.
