Why would 500 MHz clock be considered in the high range?

Hi Elixe

I said 500+ range. This is clock, not data rate. As we have discussed Cell and Xbox 360 to have a clock of 350 MHz for GDDR3, this is as fast as is used now I think.

Are you implying that GDDR3-1.6GHz data rate is in the same price range as 1.0GHz data rate?
(2-2.5 times DDR2).

I don't know that, Elixe. My informant was very reluctant to give details, in fact at first did not want to give ANY but I persuaded by a QandA play to choose one range of a few which I presented. For competitive reasons they are not publishing price lists of this stuff. I guess if there are only two customers (ATI and NVidia), they have to be careful.

Be assured that I am always searching for more info on such issues and sharing it when I get it. If you can get an actual quote out of one of those who make it, that would be great.

(I have even asked an Israeli woman who keeps bombaring me with requests for chip quotes through chipstocks.net to ask a quote for me, but she did not do it:(

Cheers
Cor
