I have just today obtained a pricing premium for GDDR3 at the high range (500 MHz clock+) from a manufacturer of whom I will not release the name.

I don’t understand that. Why would 500 MHz clock be considered in the high range?

This type of memory sells for 2-2.5 times DDR2 (which is approx. $ 5.90 street price at the moment per 512 Mbit chip).

Are you implying that GDDR3-1.6GHz data rate is in the same price range as 1.0GHz data rate?
(2-2.5 times DDR2).
