I need some more help understanding Betas....

Specifically what I had in mind was Apollo Group (APOL).

I was researching this stock at Yahoo. The beta is shown as .0156.....very low.

However, the 52 week high for the stock was $98.01. The 52 week low is shown as $62.55. In my opinion, that seems to me to be a rather large spread in prices to have such a low beta.

I had always assumed in the past that a stock with a low beta was less volatile than a stock with a high beta.

That now leads me to believe that a stock with a very low beta can be just as volatile as a stock with a high beta.

Am I correct in this assumption?

Thanks,

Ray
