Three may be charged in Sackets pub fight

SACKETS HARBOR — Village police have completed their investigation into the alleged assault of Thomas W. Scozzafava on May 26 at his restaurant, the Sackets Harbor Brew Pub, 213 W. Main St., and have presented their findings to the Jefferson County district attorney's office.

Chief Richard G. Coseo said he expects to charge three people, and possibly a fourth, in connection with the incident, but he wants the DA to review the case first.

He does not anticipate any felony charges. Mr. Scozzafava's injuries were not as serious as initially believed, Chief Coseo said.

All known witnesses and alleged participants have been interviewed, he said.

Mr. Scozzafava, who said he was being checked for a concussion, termed his assault "a lure-and-ambush situation" when asked by the Times on May 27 about the incident. The fight was said to have started in the bar area, and "spilled out the front door and onto the ramp," Chief Coseo said shortly after opening the probe.

He also said at the time that the fight may have been sparked by a comment made by Mr. Scozzafava about somebody related to one of the assailants.
