Baltimore LED lighting maker SavWatt USA Inc. hopes to hire between two dozen and 40 workers by July 1 as it seeks to expand its manufacturing operations here.

Business development manager Jerry Sutton said the company is looking for people to work in assembly, quality control, and shipping and handling, and that’s just to start. SavWatt (OTCBB: SAVW) is moving next week to new headquarters by M&T Bank Stadium.

The company has about 25 workers and has listed some of its current openings on its website. Long term, SavWatt CEO Michael Haug told the Baltimore Business Journal in December the company wants to boost its Baltimore employment to 500 or more. That depends on how successful it is in getting new business.

“It really is going to depend on the amount of projects that we get,” Sutton said.

SavWatt announced its first major deal June 3. Bladensburg has signed a letter of intent with the company to install LED light — light-emitting diode — as part of the Prince George’s County town’s Green Street initiative. The program includes installing bike lanes, landscaping and energy efficient street lights. SavWatt’s lights are projected to save the town 50 percent in operating costs.
