You're right about the retailers. A lot of local gas stations by me have either closed or gone to repair work only. Most of the highway stations are corporate owned.
I agree that commodity trading is a big part of the problem, but if you look at the latest oil company Q's or K's, you'll see that none of them are exactly starving!!!!
By the way, I still get out of my car when I get gas. Gotta clean the windshields yourself nowadays.
