You are right of course, but to my defense I have given many a pass. There's only so many times I can hear the same sob story before I myself get frustrated.

I have a very close friend who would always complain about his girlfriend. Every single time we'd hang out it would just be more of the same complaining over and over and over. Of course I told him to move on if he was so unhappy and he didn't like that much, said I just didn't understand. I eventually stopped hanging out with him because I was tired of hearing it and he inevitably married this girl. 1 year later they were divorced and he came to me first to apologize for not listening. I told him it wasn't me he needed to listen to, it was himself. I would share this same advise with everyone here.
