Corp: I Invested in IDCC When it Was IMM at the IPO

I have more shares today then I did then. At times I have bought and sold some shares but retain my core position and have added to it at various times. I've made some $$$ trading shares (and lost some too but overall I'm ahead in trades). Overall I'm ahead in terms of what my average purchase price was vs the price today. HOWEVER, I'd certainly be better off if I had invested in MSFT or INTL or even APPL or probably even put my money in CDs and let the interest accumulate.

Whether this investment turns out to be a net plus relative to all other possible investments for me remains to be seen. I'll probably never beat what I would have gained had I invested in MSFT in 1980 instead of IMM later IMMC later IDCC (I think we had some other sympbols too, one or two along the way). So if they invent the wayback machine, I'd invest some in MSFT and some in IDCC and sell at the right times and buy at the right times.

Overall today I'm a net winner but not compared to many other investments. I HOPE that by next year I can say that while I would have done better in MSFT or INTL or APPL or many other investments (QCOM too) I did better than I would have in many investments even if not all.

The reason I invested in IDCC originally was that I knew Sherwin S and Irv G and I believed in them. Of course, they're long gone. I stayed invested when they left because I believed in the IP. My investment is more in the IP than in the BOD or current (or recent past) management. I do have enough confidence in management and BOD that I haven't sold because I think the value of the IP outweighs my concerns about management or BOD and I don't honestly feel that I have enough information to specifically criticize management OR BOD and I don't think it is really my place to do so--I don 't think it helps. And respectfully I don't agree with many of your criticisms or assesments and analysis of who is to blame for what or why we are here today rather than at $50 or $60 a share.

But I absolutely do respect your posts and your thoughts even if I don't agree with them or at least not all of them. I find you bright and thoughtful and analytical and appreciate the substantive nature of your posts and the civil tone you take even though many of your detractors and attackers don't follow suit. I take you at your word that you're long, and that you think that your proposal is good for longs and that you think replacing HC would be good for longs and that you have no personal agenda nor a professional one aimed at taking the company over for yourself or a client. I have no reason to doubt your sincerity or not take you at your word.

I find it very possible to agree to disagree with you with civility and respect. Can't say as much for everyone here.

So what else do you want to know? smile
