In the real world, Lucentis patients see the eye doctor when they get treated—rarely, if ever, between treatments

I don't dispute that - what I am saying is that the trial reported today did something quite different - they scanned every month, and commented that that was likely the reason for the good results in the "as-needed" group. So this particular trial does not directly support every-other-month treatment for Lucentis.
