Very satisfactory reply to me:

Hello Mr. []

We are all very aware and concerned enough about the potential damage to take the extra precautions and pay additional freight charges to ensure that freezing does not happen. Every single shipment that HEPI has sent to Xooma has been sent via Fed Ex Freight’s Temp Assure Model. Basically it means that the product rides in a temperature controlled vehicle from pick up to drop off. As an added precaution we have also sent freeze strips in the pallets sent to Xooma. These freeze strips will trip if the ambient temperature drops below the freezing point. I have also had an opportunity to visit the Xooma facility in Virginia, and have seen firsthand their pristine warehouse that houses Kardiaxyme in a temperature controlled manner.

Thankfully I believe we are almost out of the woods for this winter, but I can tell you off the record that Ron Howell (CEO of Xooma) is already investigating both insulated packaging for next winter and some sort of heating stick that could be placed in 4Packs of Kardiaxyme to again ensure that the product does not freeze from the Xooma warehouse to the end user (or distributor).

One last comment, most airfreight companies like UPS, Fed-Ex and Mach1 offer temperature controlled cargo bays inside of the planes. So airfreight is not out of the question but it is certainly a MUCH more expensive option.

I hope that my reply has been helpful. If I didn’t answer something to your satisfaction please don’t hesitate to contact me again.
